Parents’ favorite pediatric specialists in Westchester County, New York

Are you new to Westchester County, NY? Perhaps you’ve lived here forever but suddenly your child needs a specialist. Where do you start? You want the best doctors for your child but how do you find the best pediatric specialists?

When we first moved to Westchester with our son, we left our established relationships with over 10 specialists in our previous state. We had to start all over again. It was a time-consuming process and was daunting wondering whether the new physicians would be good matches for our son and his care. I could only hope I would find the best pediatric specialists.

Take advantage of the resources you have

Prior to moving to Westchester, I asked every specialist our son was seeing if he or she knew anyone in Westchester County, NY. Believe it or not, each medical specialty community is smaller than you realize and might lead to some great recommendations. So, if you are moving, pick your existing physicians’ brains and see if they can give you some names.

The general pediatrician’s recommendations for the best pediatric specialists

If you aren’t able to get recommendations from previous specialists, you might start by finding a pediatrician. Of course, if you’ve lived in the area for a while you probably already have a pediatrician. Your pediatrician will likely have some specialist names, but he/she may only refer you to specialists in the same network. We all want the best specialists for our kids and staying within the network is not always our top priority.

This brings me to my next and favorite resource:

Parent groups on social media!

That’s the beauty of this social media era we live in. You don’t even need to know a soul to find what you are looking for. Upon joining various local parent groups and searching, I found that parents are constantly asking for names of specialists and the same names seem to come up frequently.

So, I decided to compile a list of recommended pediatric specialists for some of the commonly used specialties to make it easier for other parents.

Each doctor listed was recommended by at least two different parents. Be aware that the names are listed in no particular order and some are located in Westchester while others are in NYC. I felt it was worth mentioning a doctor if multiple parents were willing to make the drive into the city to have their child seen by him/her. I’ve placed an asterisk* if our son saw this provider and I was pleased with the care. Lastly, you can click on their names to be directed to their websites for more information.
